The amazing quantity of different restaurants in Gran Canaria's holiday resort of Puerto Rico can leave visitors confused. Choosing which restaurant to eat out in when away from home can often be a risk. Until the food is actually served it's impossible to know if the quality is going to be good. Many prefer to enjoy food they are familiar with and leave the tasting of local delicacies to the occasional evening.
Harry's Room for the Best of British
Harry's has the best reputation for home from home fish and chips in the south of Gran Canaria. Along with thick steaks cooked to perfection and served fresh from the kitchen, his British meals have over the last few years become firm favourites with returning guests. Tucked away at the rear of the shopping centre, between Buddy's Bar and Chez Funny Boys, it's not the easiest to find, but well worth it when you do.
Harry's Late Night Take Away
After the late bars in Puerto Rico shopping centre turn out for the night, Harry's Room Take Away, which is right next to Harley's and Piccadilly disco pubs, stays open until the early hours of the morning to help the revellers satiate their after-hours hunger. There's nothing like one of Harry's huge pizza slices for soaking up the effects of the evenings drinking.
Dinner Shows in Puerto Rico
Café Central is in the heart of Puerto Rico’s commercial centre and reputedly serves the best British breakfast and excellent coffee. The huge, open-plan restaurant is open daily from morning through to late evening, and the comfortable terrace is an ideal place to wile a few holiday hours sipping on a freshly fruit juice or an elegant cocktail.
Elvis Alive and Kicking in Gran Canaria!
The extensive evening menu on offer in Café Central is well prepared, ranging from British traditional to typical Spanish and also international dishes. There really is something to suit everyone, and all served with a touch of style. Late diners, or those who stay on for an after-dinner tipple, will be entertained by the true ‘Memphis-style sequinned suit show’ of Café Central’s resident ‘Elvis’ singer and the sultry tones of Spanish ‘Fernando’, the guitar playing vocalist.
Good for Lunch or a Dinner Canarian Style
Sometimes it's good to enjoy the traditional flavours of the country you are visiting. Gran Canaria has some very special dishes which you can try in the restaurant Balcon Canaria. They offer many local delicacies on their extensive menu in either "tapa" size or in a larger portion if required. Canarian potatoes with mojo sauce, thick wedges of Spanish omelette, prawns in garlic and much more all fresh and very tasty.
Amadores by Night
An evening meal eaten on a sea-front terrace, watching the sunset across the water, can make for the most memorable of holiday evenings. On the Amadores Beach is an Italian owned and staffed restaurant called Ciao Ciao. The food and service are only outshone by the sun slipping below the waters edge. With excellent fresh pasta and a wide variety of authentic Italian dishes on offer, as well as Ciao Ciao’s famous homemade ice-creams, dining out in this lovely setting could turn out to be the best night of any holiday.
